just dug out all my old punctured tubes.
before i set to work repairinig them, can i use patches cut from an old tube as opposed to the rather expensive patches?

probably not that well...
want to be proper cheapskate? Go tubeless!

You can buy patches on eBay at £1 for 48. Cutting an old tube will work but not as well and is it really worth it. Even from a bike shop they are about 15p each. It's still way cheaper than a new tube or going tubeless

I found the best patches come from old latex tubes rather than butyl ones.

More that going tubeless removes the punctures and the need for fixing tubes
