I got a Cycle Ops trubo trainer with a s/h bike I bought off ebay last year.
I decided to drag it out and give it a go over winter, just looking at the manual on line and it should have a "special" skewer. I don't have it. I looked on line and I can get one but there is a lead time of about 2 weeks.
I have put a bike in it with a standard shimano skewer and it has gripped it very well and it is apparently secure.
I am assuming the trainer skewer is stronger to deal with the additional force on it?
Will it be a comedy epic fail if I try to use it? Anyone used a normal skewer successfuly?
The skewer is designed to be the same profile as the clamp so it holds it properly, nothing to do with strength, if it fits and clamps solid it will be fine.
Yep as above, the difference is the profile - they're usually very squared off at the ends. Normal skewers tend to get pretty mangled too (particularly if it's a plastic end cap), so not great if you've got a posh skewer.
Thanks gents
I use a Halo Bolt through Qr for turbo duties, seems to work just fine
as above - have you contacted air traffic control?
My CycleOps didn't come with a skewer, but then I've had it about 15 years. A cheap Shimano skewer fits just fine, I thought they supplied a skewer because a lot of the current skewers won't fit.
Looks like a cheap old-school skewer to me:
