I'm thinking the 3mm offset shouldn't matter greatly as it affects the smaller cassette cog which I'll hardly use.

Far more options for chainrings that are non boost.

Thoughts please, ta.

Seems to me that most 1x chain rings could do with a chain line closer to the centreline. I think it might work better than a boost. Or perhaps a spacer on the bb axle to split the difference.

Doubt it, but my boosted bike runs better with the right ring / cranks on it than non boosted versions

100% agree with onzadog.

My Sultan, a bike designed for 3x and 2x has the chainring spaced inwaeds by nearly 7mm, because that's where it runs best and it has the space.

My hardtail has to live with about 2.5mm only because it's limited by the chain stay, but it's easy to see this isn't the most optimal place for it and it could go in further if it wasn't for the frame.

There's much less wear on the drop-stop chainring on the sultan, and much less noise too.

A lot of the comapnies making direct mount rings recommend same chainline for boost and non boost, giving the same argument as above.

Boost will, of course, give you some additional clearance between chain and tyre, chainring and chainstay.
