Hi All,
Quick one for anyone that has recently imported parts from the US to the UK.
As I read it, duty would be levied at 14% for a whole bike but 4.7% for a frame and forks. plus then VAT on value of goods+carriage+value of duty and handing fees etc.
that sound about right?
ta
I think that's right. My fatbike came (from Alaska) in two boxes and was charged at the lower rate as neither box contained a full bike.
I've just ordered a frame fom Turner.
Duty + VAT + Admin was £217 on a £862 frame. (inc P&P)
So i think it's price + p.p then converted to GBP + 4.7% then add 20% then admin.
I believe you pay duty and vat on the total amount including postage.
Fancied a Ringlé style bottle cage from the states, but the price when they land is silly.
Same here, just bought an expensive frame from the USA and am getting parts sent separately (well I'll probably also source some of them locally) to avoid the larger duty.
Thanks all.
Yep only looking to import frame, forks and some bars so looks like duty is levied at 4.7% and yep Onzadog that would be 4.7% of parts and carriage. then VAT at 20% levied on total costs of parts and duty plus royal mail/parcel farce / others admin fee.
