Just got one of the updated koala's but I can't seem to get it fully secured to the saddle using the newer straps.
I tried tightening everything up but I still seem to get a bit of wobble on it.

Anyone else got one yet and figured it out?

First seat pack of this style so it'll be me doing something wrong no doubt?

Grey straps?

I used mine for first time this week - I found doing the side straps up tight did reduce but not eliminate the wobble.

What are the seatpost straps like now? They were pretty weedy on the old ones, have the seat straps been made from a bigger tape as well?

Yeah grey straps. I get the same bit of wobble. OK when riding seated but felt a bit odd when stood up for a quick blast.

Seat post straps are two, inch and a bit wide rubberised things. Seem good. It's the seat rail ones I seem to can't get tight enough.

I do like it though. Managed to fit quite a bit of kit in it today.

I've modified mine by putting an additional strap through a couple of the loops to the rear of the saddle rail strap. This is then tightened around the saddle post and reduces sway quite effectively, as it clamps onto the central webbing rather than allowing it to run to and fro as the saddle rail strap does. I may have to post pictures to explain this better.

Interested in ways of improving the original fit. Mine gradually loosened off no matter how much I tightened it up. The original straps just seem to creep with use.

Revelation bags have a clamp type buckle that locks the strap in place to stop it creeping loose. Might be something similar on eBay to adapt.

I've made up an extra-long pedalstrap which I use on either/both of my rackless bags to just tuck them up a bit tighter to the seat.

(It's only a bit of ~15mm polypropylene webbing with a metal pedalstrap buckle sewn in the end, but it works a treat, and could be useful elsewhere if something breaks).

Seat packs/harnesses aren't completely rigid, you'll get some lateral movement however tight you make things. I've the Wildcat Tiger which has a better attachment system than the Koala and it moves slightly, not enough that it affects the handling of the bike. When well cinched down I can probably move the pack a couple of centimetres to either side.

Any such movement will also depend on what and how you pack in to the bag, clothing won't cause much movement whereas heavy/dense objects will.

One or two US based manufacturers do a seat harness that also has a lower attachment bar to eliminate such movement - http://bikepackersmagazine.com/porcelain-rocket-mr-fusion-review/

Totally understand about the fact they'll never be a rigid structure and that harness does look a good idea, but mission accomplished folks. You've given me some ideas on how to make it that tad more secure.

Trying a photo link to my strap modification.

Please tell me if this works and I'll add others with an updated explanation. Thanks.

Good thinking. I'll give that a try now.

Thanks

One thing I did before attaching the additional strap is move the original saddle rail strap (if thatmakes sense), as this gave a better alignment to this fixing IMO.

Yeah. I'll mess around with the strap positions. I also bought a couple of extra seat post straps,as spares, when I ordered so run three on mine. Doesn't seem to make a massive difference if I'm honest!
