Unclipping with a sore foot

So after my careless topple last week, there are no obvious breaks in the x-ray, bruising has gone, but there is still a little swelling and pain on the top of my foot and under my ankle bone.

It doesn't hurt to ride, more comfortable than walking, but unclipping, even with multi release cleats and tension at the minimum, is a bit more ouchy than I would like. I don't have any flat pedals or flat pedal shoes to switch to.

Was wondering if anyone had ideas for some sort of support/strapping to for my foot and ankle that might reduce the flex/pain when clipping in and out.

I really want/need to start getting some miles in.

Could you switch to flat pedals (or just one?)

Can you try unclipping inwards rather than outwards? Might be more painful but might be less!

Didn't fancy finding/buying flat pedals for what will hopefully only be 2-3 weeks

Appreciate the offer, have invested in a big macho ankle support so I'll see how that works

Google "Spd to flat adapter"

Clips onto the spd with a plastic adaptor.ย

Not ideal but maybe ok for easy non technical rides until you heal.

Cheap and cheerful and maybe an option and at least you can get out and get some miles in.

I hope you recover quickly.ย

Edit: Secondhand flat pedals from somewhere maybe a better option and worth the extra outlay for the benefits.
