Think one of these might be handy but do I need one? And if so what one for cleaning bike bits?

If you want to put chainrings and MRB cassettes in it, you need a fairly sizable one. The usefulness of them is limited by how often you can be bothered to strip the drivetrain, I've had mine 6 months and only used it once for example. As you can't put anything with bearings in it, (unless they are unsealed and can be properly regreased) the application for bike parts is kind of limited. To be honest, if anyone showed a real interest in one and had the use for it, I'd probably sell it and just go back to manual degreasing.

I used one on a chain before I rewaxed it and it was absolutely amazing. The chain came out factory fresh without any grease or oil. I had degreased the chain first of all and I put the chain in hot water but it took out all of the little grot that was sitting inside the chain

I've and small cleaner and used it a fair whack. Degreasing bearings, chains etc. it just loves under the bench. The noise is jarring.

I would be careful of your hearing if you use one regularly.
We used to put the work one in a room on its own.

What’s the cleaning medium out of interest?

What’s the cleaning medium out of interest?

Big bottle of Screwfix degreaser, watered down.
