[Closed] Ultimate showdown - RAGLEY Vs ON-ONE - Who wins - You decide

As you may know I have a Ragley MmmBop and am loving it, just a touch curious tho.

Who rides a Ragley, and who rides an On-one, who has ridden both.

What is Singletracks definitive answer - Ragley or On-one? And why?

considering that STW is populated by fickle marketing obsessed audi driving whores, the one that is currently in fashion will win regardless of how it rides. ๐Ÿ˜‰

owned the following
2 x on one 29rs
1 x inbred
1 x 456
1 x summer season
1 x blue pig
1 x mmm bop

the 'that green' 456 was the best, and the one i would want back.

Had a Scandal, now have an Mmmbop. Horses for courses obviously, the Scandal was the better XC bike, the Mmmbop is the better for mucking about on, but I know which I prefer.

Though having said that my Mmmbop is going back under warranty as the left hand dropout plate thing is bent, but still ace.

Dialled Bikes Alpine.

Sort of like an Evil Sovereign, but not as good...

Having said that, I'd really like a go on a 456 or similar to see how it compares to some of the offensively expensive alternatives.

That's my extremely constructive input.

just casting about for a bit of objectivity: but as Ragley are newer, surely 90% of owners who have owned both will have had an on one & now have a Ragley. (law of averages)
& they wouldn't very well say they'd swapped out a good ride for a wrong'un would they?

Have a Blue Pig and an 853 On One. Had a 456.

Can I vote for On Ones before Brant left in a STW forum fashion? lol ๐Ÿ˜†

Ragley 4
Dialled Bikes 2
On One 1

yes but one of those was comparing a xc race frame to a all mountain hardtail so that doesn't count.

I'm going for ragley, simply because their bikes have cooler names. Must factor this kind of thing in when buying a bike.

I'd rather own a 'blue pig' than a '456' anyday.

I have a 456 and love it, and prefer the look of the 456 over the mmmbop. Also excited about waiting for the new On-One Ti 29" geared hopefully due around April 2011.

So do I get 2 votes for having a 456 and waiting/wanting a on-one ti 29er...

But I have never ridden a Ragley but I can imagine them riding about the same as the 456.

Ragley, costs more and you have to put the stickers on yourself. What's that all about? Apart from that it's newer and more fashionable so it must be better.

mmmbops are ace. Fact. (still enjoy my rigid DN6 inbred though)

my pig is ace, it's very good on difficult steep stuff.

my inbred is ace, it's very good on faster easier flatter stuff.

bikes are ace.

(the 456 is more or less basically an extra chunky inbred, if you want to ride flatter easier stuff quickly, get an inbred - you don't need the extra chunk of the 456. if you want to ride difficult steep stuff, get a pig - it's just a bit better than the 456 if you want something chunky, imho)

have owned-

inbred (sold)
steel 456 (kept)
ti 456 (kept)
scandal (sold)
scandal 29er (kept)
blue pig (sold)

my vote goes to on one. 456 beats the pig by a country mile.

I have owned a 456, I currently own an apline and mmmbop, but like them all in different ways. Picking a favourite I would have to go with the alpine as it has taken me to the most places and given me the most memories, however... the mmmbop is still very new.

Sod it, the winner is a ti alpine in 18"

Its threads like this that make me sad that I own an On One but relieved I don't have a Ragley.

The answer obviously is whichever one is considered niche at the moment, and you can photograph with about half a metre of seat tube sticking out the top of it.

Seeing as I have only ridden one of them, and seeing as I would break down into pathetic mewing sobs if anyone suggested that my bike was anything less than the greatest, coolest ride ever, I feel I am perfectly qualified to answer this question.

Anyone interested in a titanium Alpine should contact Mark (the manager) at The Bike Chain in Edinburgh as he is trying to make something happen on that front. Nothing concrete at present so please don't e-mail me about it as I won't be getting involved until Mark has at least 15-20 firm commitments.

Ti 456 (Brant Design) is my best ever hard tail. Perfect bike for Surrey Hills, also did the SDW in one ( very slow) attempt, so could this be the most versatile bike? I say YES ๐Ÿ˜›

Never tried the Ragley shed stuff though.

I haven't ridden either. So going on graphics and paint, I choose Ragley.
Mainly because of that 'refreshers' model.

The Ragley TD-1 I borrowed for Hit The North and Kielder100 was way better than the Inbred I've had for 5 years or so. But that's not really a fair comparison ๐Ÿ™‚

Brant designed the 456 6 years ago. Is it likely that he's got worse at designing frames in the last six years? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I thought Genesis VFM had taken a plunge over the last year or so, but that's just based on hearsay and not bothering to look. I suppose most brands have really.

Well i had/have (still in box, just in case!) a 456 summer season that was ace but a chore needed to be slightly steeper imo, should of got a standard but the ss was v cheap, so decided to get a standard 456 when the Mmmbop came upat silly price, or should i say cheaper then the 456 so took a punt and tbh thats ace as well, is it better, not sure yet but definately hitting stuff faster, and not always by choice it just seems to be more eager/rides faster, buts that just imo all that steel is real stuff, cant say i noticed that either...anyway enough rambling both are ace, but tbh i wouldnt of got the Mmmbop at rrp as i dont feel it is that much better ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Rode 456 Ti and Ragley Ti back to back and much preferred the 456.

This may just be because it was most similar to my existing bike, whereas the ragley required a bigger change in riding style? who knows.

Having first owned a Summer Season I switched all the parts to an Mmmbop about 2 months ago. The only thing I can add is that my Pikes always felt like they underperformed. I never rated them at all, but switching them to the Mmmbop has made a huge difference to the same forks. I can only presume that the slightly different (seat tube) geometry is getting more out of the fork.

Ridden both flavours and just prefer the Ragley Ti.
Lovely frame that just goes up mountain and down dale with minimum fuss.
"Point and Squirt" is how I would describe it.

Never ridden any of them, but I did see a 456 once from a distance. I am therefore qualified to state that Ragley are WAY better than one on, probably. Or was it the other way round...
