ok, knackered old tip bike with gawd knows what rims on but they seem fairly straight, paired with Geax Barro tyres from on-one for pennies..
how can I encourage the tyres to seat more evenly..?

handsoap on the bead/rim interface and give the track some beans!

Soapy water and plenty of pressure is pretty much all you need.
