Currently running Maxxis Beaver front and rear on the 2015 Nerve AL 6.0, and going on a family holiday to Les Gets.
Don't want to a) have inappropriate tyres to over-exaggerate the error of riding a trail / XC bike in DH country and b) find that the choice of tyre is simply too flimsy to cope with the Alps.
What would be a solid recommendation, bearing in mind money doesn't grow on trees and the tyres would ideally find some use back in the UK too.
Something like On One Smorgasbord as a cheap but solid option? http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TYOOSM65/on-one-smorgasbord-650b-tubeless-ready-tyre
(Or would the Beaver be OK?)
Smorg is a great tyre but a bit too flimsy for the alps.
Dual ply every time for me, even on the trail bike out there
Cheers - it might come down to £££, so any recommendations or tyres to avoid which meet the 650b / dual ply criteria (assuming everyone agrees that a fortnight in the Alps requires dual ply tyres).
Planning on trying to run them tubeless too, but that's a weekend project!
My usual is a High Roller on the back and a Minion up front. I'll stick a Wet Scream on if/when it rain. All dual ply.
I always ran dual ply HR's tough as old boots, never had a puncture but did run them at 30-35. Last year I used Hans Dampfs which are not as tough but seemed to hold up ok, we where not riding particularly rocky tracks though more enduro trails and not a high speeds, no jumps etc.
