[Closed] Tyre recommendation for Peak District

Afternoon all,

My Schwalbe Smart Sams are on their way out after a year of Peak District battering. The rear now has a bulging sidewall where a few too many rock strikes have almost worn a hole all the way through.

Can anyone make a recommendation for a good (and not too expensive) tyre as a replacement? I don't change them according to the conditions, as I'm just not that conscientious so they'd need to be suitable all year round in the Peak District. I think that a bit of extra resilience on the sidewalls would also be a bonus, as this is where my Smart Sams have suffered the most.

FWIW, I'd be happy with another set of Smart Sams if people think they're the best value, just wondered what other opinions are...?

Tubed, not tubeless by the way...

Thanks.

My experience with sundry Schwalbe tyres in the Peak is that unless you go for Snakeskin versions - not cheap - the sidewalls will wear out before the tread - also not cheap. My fave Peak tyres are Maxxis Ardents and Minion DHFs in the EXO version, again not cheap. Then again, if a pair of Smart Sams has lasted you a year, you're possibly less destructive than me.

IMO you can't beat Maxis Advantage run tubeless

High rollers, although I ran a DMR MotoR on the back last time I visited (in the bone dry) and it was brilliant, just enough grip, fast rolling and thick casing. I do tend to swap rear tyres more often though and leave the front tyre be as there's les of a rolling resistance penalty with the front tyre uphill so less to be gained.

2.25 ADvantage are good, even in the cheap 70a wire bead form.
