1) How much difference will I notice between using an expensive [url= https://www.tredz.co.uk/.KMC-X10-SL-DLC-116L-10-Speed-Chain_92561.htm?sku=323251&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google_shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInMz-0bPF1gIVQr7tCh0eQw2REAQYAyABEgLRIPD_BwE ]expensive KMC chain[/url] compared to the much less expensive Campagnolo version? The bike, incidentally, is a 2014 Wilier GTR with Campagnolo Veloce groupset.

2) I always replace my cassette when changing chains, but if there is no startlingly obvious wear on the front chainrings, am I right to assume they will be fine?

Oh yes. That too. So are you suggesting that a chain like the one I linked to, for all its additional cost, proffers no advantages over a standard chain?

On what basis do they get away with marketing them, then?

No idea about those ones but generally as prices go up then stuff gets lighter or stronger for the same weight. g everywhere

2) If you change your chain early it is possible to keep the same cassette for a long time. I managed 18 months. But it's questionable if this is cheaper. Chainrings however last much much longer than cassettes, so don't change them. Especially bigger road ones.

It's the concept of 'perceived value'. If something costs more people assume it must be better...

It's about 20g lighter for about £25 more than the Campag one.

Those prices all look a bit up-ish.

I use more expensive versions of chains in the full knowledge that I'm not getting any more life or shoring performance than I would from a cheaper one. What I believe I get is better corrosion resistance. Given that I clean my chains often and keep a close eye on wear, I believe they offer better value to me.

Maybe I should by chains at half the price, change th twice as often and spend less time cleaning.

The X10-93 is nickel plated, so doesn't rust. He could save another £5, or so for the KMC X10-73 if he wasn't bothered about that 🙂

(I don't work for KMC, honest!)
