have carbon on my race bike - good for small bottles ie 500ml racing bottles - pish for big uns - 900ml SIS bottles

have bontragers on my SS - they are ok but doesnt feel the most secure

i want a nice pair of alloy bottle cages that are strong and robust - i used to use blackburn MTN bottle cages as the joint was reinforced well - anything a bit less industrial ?

I've never lost a bottle out of a King Cage.
Never broken one either.

all the cheapys ive had have failed at the welds - either to the base/bolt plate or at the tubing joint !

I've got a lezyne one, seems nice and sturdy, no idea about the weight though.

Zefal has no welds.

Tried an Elite, ejected bottle on first ride.

I think you've answered your own question by stating Blackburn. Very affordable and with a lifetime guarantee, if those oh so ugly industrial (read strong), welds happen to fail.

Who gives a toss what it looks like? It's a water bottle cage....

Ive used blackburn comp for years, slightly less beefy than the MTN but solid, and look nice too.

I use the Specialized ones. They hold the bottle quite far up its length, so no shaking around and a good tight fit - even on longer bottles. Ain't never broken one either (not like the Ti one which came apart in the middle of Glen Affric).

all else fails i will go back to MTNs . not interested in plastic or carbon i want something i can adjust if it becomes a loose fit 😉

Lezyne ones here too. The alloy ones are 54g so not light (in the world of bottle cages anyway) but rock solid and hold any size bike bottle well + other non cycle bottles like lucozade bottles etc pretty well.
