I have just put a new back tyre on the 29er (Specialized Fast Track Control, Stans ZTR Crest rims), its on the bead all the way round on one side but not quite all the way around on the other. Its a bloody tight tyre on the rim anyway, do I just keep adding pressure till it goes up or go for a bimble and hope? It is keeping pressure quite happily at the moment.
I'd deflate it and start again. Maybe with some soap bubbles on the bead too.
Hmm, I had trouble with a spesh ground control. The bead wasn't 'uniform' all the way round I trimmed it with a very sharp scalpel very carefully.
No problems so far.
I've also had spesh tyre that was warped from new and had to send it back, not uncommon I believe.
Check the bead on your rim as well for a build up of crud.
How nuch pressure have you got in at the moment ?
I'd deflate it too and check there is nothing stopping it from seating (note where it's not seating before you deflate) then brush on some washing up liquid and water around inside of rim and tyre bead (both sides) and then re-inflate to 60psi to seat it. If it seats deflate to your normal running pressure.
If it doesn't seat after that you may have a faulty tyre.
I'm not sure I'd recommend goung anywhere near the tyre bead with a scalpel or indeed any knife unless it was wire bead because inadvertently cutting a bead filament could cause the tyre to blow off the rim.
Cheers for the replies, after I took it up to about 50psi it was only about a 150/200mm section on one side that wouldn't pop out, so I dropped it to 30psi and rode it up and down the road for a few minutes, its all seated nicely now.
Thanks again!
