Ok So I've been running my rear tubeless using a ghetto conversion. Its worked well in the past but recently I've had major problems.
Last saturday I took the valve core out to top up with sealant (conversion was about two weeks prior to this) put the core back in and go to pump back up, sealant leaking out everywhere and no chance of the tyre inflating. I eventually had to go find a guy with a compressor. I didn't understand what had happened but thought that it might just have been that I didn't put enough sealant in originally for the tube to stick to the tyre.
Today I get a pncture and after a couple of minutes the hissing has stopped and the hole looks sealed, I ride on and the hissing resumes so as theres plenty of air in the tyre I decide to be careful but leave it to seal itself. 20 seconds later a very violent burp and the tyre is flat. The tyre showed absolutely no sign of having bonded to the rim strip.
I am right in saying that the tyre should bond to the rim strip? if this isn't happening why not?- I scrubbed and cleaned the tyre prior to the conversion but only with water.
Secondly is the sealant I'm using crap (No tubes tyre sealant) as this is the second possibly third puncture that its failed to seal?

The tyre doesn't bond to the rim strip, its only there to prevent air leaking through the spoke holes & to reduce the gap between the tyre bead & the rim so as the air can seat the bead on the rim & not leak out.
I've used No tubes sealant & it been fine but you do need to shake the bottle a lot & get it in the tyre fast as the sealing granules in the liquid sink to the bottom & you only get the liquid in the tyre.
I've also found that the washing up liquid helps a lot as it lubricates the tyre/rim interface & helps the seal.
On previous conversions I've had a really good seal between the strip and the tyre, so much they were difficult to seperate. If the two aren't meant to bond then what is the point in spinning the wheel so much once you've got it inflated and also it would mean everytime you top up with sealant you have to go find a compressor, which would make it so much more of a faff.
Compressor not needed.
