[Closed] Tubeles woes... valve issue?

Went to go out on my bike last night & had a flat tyre, tried pumping up the tyre but it wouldn't hold air, it seemed to be perfectly seated, but the air appeared to be coming out of the valve, eventually replaced it with a tube.

The sealant level was a bit low, but there was still plenty there, I tried re-seating the valve but that made no difference.

Any ideas?

Is it coming out of the valve, or out of the valve hole? Probably the latter I think?

The trouble is that air coming out the valve hole doesn't mean a problem with the valve, necessarily- if anything's leaking air into the rim itself, it'll often leak out past the valve- the entire rim gets pressurised and the valve hole's the easiest way out.

Going old-school and dunking it in water can be pretty helpful.

After if got to about 20psi, you could hear & feel the air coming back out from that area.... wouldn't hold air long enough to get to a water feature.... :-/

As Northwind says - probably leaking into the rim cavity through a spoke hole and out through the valve hole.

On flatting the tyre part of the tape may have slipped on the rim allowing air to escape as said above. Happened to me a few times.

I've had a number of issues with valves and certain rim designs, plus the valve's lockrings loosened over time. It drove me bonkers trying to fix it.

I solved it by fitting two small rubber o-rings from an old fork seal kit to the base of the valves and tightening the lockrings with a pair of pliers.

Also, it can help to add a couple of layers of electrical tape to the rim bed.
