[Closed] Truvativ/SRAM cranks - How to get the right tension without a torque wrench?

As above - When I first undid them they were incredibly tight. the bolt has 53-56Nm printed on it, which is a massive amount of force (compared to 20Nm for the rear both through). I'm not too worried about undertightening it, as I have a long handled 8mm allen wrench. More concerned about overtightening, stripping threads, overloading the BB (is this possible with the SRAM desigin?). Any advice? Or just buy a torque wrench, but I'm not too keen on doing this as the type of wrench won't be of any use anywhere else on the bike, with most of the other bolts being less than 12Nm of force.

Work out the weight/force needed to push down on whatever length your allen key is to get to 53-56Nm - or buy a torque wrench ๐Ÿ™‚

Answered my own question. When you overtighten the crank bolt, you shear the head off the bolt and have to buy a new one. Fixed it good and proper I did ๐Ÿ˜†

I didn't think I could manage that much force with a standard Draper allen key. HULK SMASH!
