3 of us planning the 3day trans Cambrian route for early may, when up pops the 24hr exposure event at newcastleton on the same date. Torn between a steady friendly trip and a challenging, flowing event. Can't decide!

So we are relying on the forum's vote.

Trip or Event - you decide!

I guess it depends what you all want out of it...
...big hills, big sky riding with mates for a few days = Wales
...lots of riding with mates in prep for SiTS or Mayhem then go do 24hr Exposure!

Any of the stw done Exposure for guidance as to what to expect?

Newcastleton is a great course for a 24hr event. They are also running the 12hr event there at the same time, so you could do that and then go for a pootle over to keilder and back.

Thanks for your words of wisdom and exp. much appreciated. I'm siding towards the Trip now, which should be a highlight of the year. One to mull over a pint with the mates.

What I should have said, also, is that we are mentally committed to the Mayhem as soloists, so it makes sense to do the Trip this year and look at Newcastleton in 2012.

Maybe a visit to cannock or FoD will sort out my longing for some singletrack!

Robert - if you want a copy of the TransCambria IMBA pack I have one spare. Bought one, lost it. Bought another. Drop me a lin, make a contribution to STW and it's yours.

You'll need the current maps as the IMBA ones are from the 50s.

You can do it in 2 days using the Miner's Arms at Pont Y Groeth - top venue with laundry done for a small fee! Bit of a brutal first day - but adds to the adventure.

Why not do the trip in April then the 24hr solo too? That's my plan of unbelievable cunning.

hillsplease- many thanks for the kind offer and I'll take you up on it. Gonna stick with a more leisurely 3 day option 😉

Are the IMBA download maps out of date also?

you can contact me at rob.wilkinson@mac.com to sort out the mailing address etc. What and how does the STW contribution reference work?
