[Closed] Trek Superfly - upgrade to 120mm forks? Advice please

I have a 2014 trek superfly which came with fox evolution 100mm forks. The forks are cr4p. So, I'm looking to upgrade them to SID XX. However, I have a choice of 100mm or 120mm. The superfly normally has a G2 offset on the forks but SID XX don't come with offset. (SID RCTs can be had with a 51mm offset).

My thinking was to go for 120mm forks as this would slacken the front a little to compensate for the lack of G2 and also to offer me a bit more plushness at the front. I'm used to riding a full susser with 160mm upfront. The bike is mainly used for training laps on a local XC trail and also the odd XC race.

Can the knowledgeable folk of STW offer any advice?

IIR the Trek G2 offset is actually 51mm, so fill your boots. At the end of the day, if you buy a 120mm SID and it doesn't work, it's about £30 for a new air assembly to reduce back to 100 or even a 110mm fork.

Hi
I have a Trek Superfly 100 (2012) and I replaced the standard G2 forks with White Bros 120mm forks.
Much prefer it this way.
Didn't notice a difference in steering/handling etc by changing offset
Cheers
Steve

Would you actually make use of the remote on the SID XX? If not I'd recommend going for the RCT version as the damping has more adjustment.

Or you could also upgrade the internals to the factory spec. What it is about the current fork that you do not like?

Going to 120mm would increase the trail anyway wouldn't it and slacken it a bit so I wouldn't worry about it to much. Not convinced i'd move to 120mm though on that kind of bike - the extra travel won't make it feel plusher.

The superfly is already quite slack for a bike like that it's 69.5 deg or something IIRC, I'd keep it at 100 or at least try 120 before splashing £500 on a new fork.

Why do you want XX? If you want the remote then buy the RCT3 in the correct offset and search on the classifieds there is a guy selling the XX damper - you'll get the same money for the RCT3 damper out of your fork.

Hardtail Superfly or FS?

The hardtail has more aggressive geometry and I wouldn't go longer than 100, the FS is a bit more relaxed, and I reckon a 120 would be fine.

It's a hard tail. I wanted the XX as its a decent XC fork and I prefer the convenience of the handlebar remote.

As far as I can see, the 51mm offset is available only on 9mm axle, I need 15mm axle (maxle lite).

Price wise both are about the same but from what I can see, the XX is a better fork.
