Has anyone traveled to Europe with 2 bikes, with out driving there. I've got the crazy idea of doing the Marmotte and Salzkammergut next year as they are one week apart. The problem would be to get both the road and mountain bikes there. I suppose I could hire a road bike there, but I would prefer just taking mine.
I live on the Isle of Man, so driving would take way too long. I don't know anyone in the area I could courier the bike to. Can you courier to a hotel or a depot where I can pick up? Any ideas?
Courier it to a local bike shop? Tried contacting the organisers as they may be able to help.
I don't see why you couldn't have two wheeled bike bags with most kit in them plus a backpack and fly. Get the taxi / mate to help you to check in. I assume you'll be renting a car at the other end. A bit of a phaff but possible.
EasyJet have a limit of one piece of sports equipment per person, BA looks to be the same.
I've travelled with one bike (in a box) and it was a big thing to move around. I can't see how you'd manage two at the same time.
There must be a bike box/bag out there that you can fit two bikes in.
I would start with contacting the hotel and seeing if they would be happy to receive your bike and maybe use Fed-EX or something like that?
Or contact the organiser like some-one mentioned up there, they may be able to help

mental - i drive down to bourg d'osians from aberdeen - thats 1200km.
I would never have thought IOM was 1600km from bourg......
I have flown once and driven twice.
driving won out because on neither trip did the van lose my bike/the ferry lose my van.
Meanwhile Easyjet managed to leave both the bikes in edinburgh and so i missed out on 1.5 days riding of a weeks holiday.... bawbags. (they are not alone, BA / Lufthansa and Airfrance all regularly forget to bring my bags to destination)
There are some people that will take bikes to races/ sportives etc - we've been away with 5034 Events in the past and Dudley has driven a van out with everyone's bikes. Makes it much easier to get a simple flight without having to worry about watching it being thrown out from the side of a plane, or not making it there.
Cant you take the mountain bike and hire a Road bike

In 2010, i had an arduous journey with 1 bike in a CRC bike bag and two rucksacks (25L, 90L).
The journey was...
- Taxi to Sheffield train station
- Train to Hull
- Car to a pub near Hull ferry terminal
- Ferry to Rotterdam
- Bus to Rotterdam center
- Walk around Rotterdam centre to train station, following insane guide
- Train to Eindhoven
- Car to my new house
The bike bag had riding gear, helmet and bedding inside as well as a bike. The bike bag was difficult to handle because it was so darn full and the bag design is pants.
If i had the money, I would've couriered the bike to the final destination. Or driven...
