neither, spend your 3.5 grand on s/h DH and XC bikes instead of mincing about on the latest inbetween thing.
Have you had a look at a Canyon strive?.
trailfox every time ! better name by far
My mate has a Covert - very nice and rides lovely. Can't comment on the trial fox, but doesn't look nearly as nice.
I'd ditch the talas tho and just get some Vans / floats, also swap the cranks for SLX 36/22 cranks - 32 will be a bit undergeared in my experience.

poppycock
Ridden both and Covert felt much plusher and a better climber. Great bike. I'm not impartial though as we sell them!
Covert. HTH.
Covert.
Now, defenitly, i'm going for the Trailfox, hehehehe. Joking, both are good choice i guess. Transition has proven value, as i have a TransAM and works perfectly pedaling and descending, and BMC is a great bike brand and has that plus like 66,5º front, large wheelbase and 142x12 rear axle.
Here it is a video of the Trailfox:
and here one of the Covert:
Enjoy

Well I did say in my experience. I find that when riding into a jump or whatever 36 is a better gear than 32. Obviously your milage will vary depending how fast you ride.
In my point of views, these are de pros:
Pros of the Transition: Fork and geo bit shorter, so, more maneoverable on technical rides?
Pros of the BMC: Weight and larger cockpit and wheelbase, so, more capable on climbs and more stable on fast downhills? and 2x10 gear.
