what suggestions do people have for buliding some fairly low level north shore and medium dirt jumps? we have enough land for pretty much anything, but it is soggy when it rains a lot. we also have varying degrees of steepness, but the steep stuff is very short, where as we have a fair 100m stretch of gentle stuff. thanks for any suggestions ๐
what do you w ant to know
what sort of wood should i use for north shore? we will have the use of a mini digger at some point during the summer, so i will try to take advantage of that.
rough cut timber
For armoured trail on soggy ground there is a bible produced by IMBA. Basically, you want to clear loose ground, lay a base bedrock, overlay hardcore with extra fines. Don't make the trail too narrow because Noobs, kids and idiots will drag dirt onto the armoured trail and ruin your efforts. Think about drainage all the time, you won't get it right first time, but try your best and then go back later and make repairs and tweeks to lines.
SingletrAction built a jump spot/pump track nr Leeds a few months ago, similar to what you describe. Go onto the website singltraction.org.uk and contact Tim the STA chairman (cheeky monkey on here), he has lots of experience of trail building at Stainburn and building jumps/pump tracks. Also, Knacker the head of trail design at Stainburn has overseen the building of numerous jump spots, pumptracks, armoured trails etc. Both can be contacted on the STA website.
