Bought a Witter bike rack and the problem is that the tilting function doesn't allow the doors to open as the mounting part to the tow ball is too wide.It looks like the Buzzrack BC2 would be good, but anyone got any other ideas. I like the look of the Atera Strada, but hard to tell if it would work?

many thanks

We have a Witter as well, our solution is to not open the barn doors.... but they are so easy to take off that if necessary it only takes a couple of minutes (as long as bikes aren't already on it)

I have the atera strada and it works fine with the barn doors on my T5. It can be a bit tight getting past the bikes, but once you open out the barn door to open past 90degrees then there is plenty of room.

Thanks guys. I think I'd rather go with one which gives me the option. Neb how do you find the Atera? Easy to use? Any issues?

Cheers

We have an Atera Strada DL on a transit custom. It's been great for the last two years. Was touted as the rack with the most door clearance available then.

Buy van, put bike on the...outside? Does not compute.

Thanks, I'll get the Atera ordered.

But then I might scuff the Alcantara and kitchen units? 😉

I'm using an Atera Strada on a Smax and it's a great bit of kit, very easy to use.
Only issue is with the wheel straps not being long enough for some plus tyres but an additional strap soon sorts it

I find the strada a cracking bit of kit, I much preferred the bikes inside, but camper conversion kinda ruled that out unfortunately!

There is a bit of a knack to it, I was a bit downbeat about it for a while (I'd got so used to throwing the bike in the van) but you get used to it and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Why would you buy a T5 with barn doors anyway? 🙄

Saved about £2k and with conversion / bike rack, i figured I wouldn't use it that much!

The rain up here very rarely falls vertically, so barn doors normally give you a bit more protection anyway!

I've ordered a fixed tow ball with my new T6 tailgate model. If I do need to carry the bikes outside the vehicle I intend to buy the Saris hitch rack. It clamps the bikes around the tyres and doesn't touch the frame. Whether or not it will give clearance to open barn doors I don't know. Looks like a good rack though.

On my t4 with barn doors I had a fiamma rack that attached to one of the doors. It worked fine and less hassle than a towbar rack. You could even open the door with the rack on.

Yep, the imaginary T6 in my head has a tailgate. 8)

Then I can carry on using my Atera Strada as and when necessary.
