MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
got just over a week of touring in norway coming up. have done longer (5-6 week) tours in NZ and iceland, but i want to take less kit this time (as i've only one pannier rack at uni).
what can i remove/add from my kit list?
1 pair bib short, 1 pair bib tights, 1 pair leg warmers
1 base layer, 1 LS jersey fleece thing, 1 SS jersey
w/proof jacket and shorts
1 pr gloves
3 pr socks
1 set of regular clothes (trousers, jumper, boxers, lightweight shoes) - i'm NOT going clubbing in oslo in lycra!
cycling shoes
summer sleeping bag, silk liner, 3/4 thermarest
1 man tent
mini stove, plate, pan, cutlery, mug
pump, innertube, repair kit, zip ties, multitool, tyre levers
1st aid kit
erm... i'm sure i had more before...
Dry bag bed roll on the bars mate ....works great .
off on the cross bike terry, not much room in there when the bar-bag is fitted 🙁 (guess i should include all relevant documents, camera etc to my list...)
I'd feel I needed a torch and a general purpose multitool with a knife on it I think.
Sunscreen probably as well.
ah yes, leatherman. might take headtorch, but i reckon norway in early june will be pretty light...
Petzl e-lite 😉
i managed it on my road bike At weekend tom - writing blog up tonight - 400k between 3pm sat and 4pm sunday changing to carradice camper long flap to get rid of my backpack tho
you're bonkers though terry 😉
i'll investigate sticking stuff under the handlebar bag...
norway in early june
Ah yes, a good point. 🙂
Ditch the bib tights, but add a second pair of shorts?
(Shorts + legwarmers + overshorts = midwinter warmth. Having 2 pairs of shorts that rub/press in different places might make for more long term comfort.)
Plenty of gaffer & PVC tape wrapped around the pump handle
i have some very thin trousers from an outdoor shop that'd pack down small and light; i'd also ditch the 'jumper' for something thinner (i'm assuming it's a big bulky thing). maybe even something that works both on and off the bike?
EDIT: i'd probably not have a long sleeve top but just use the waterproof jacket and take it off when you get into pubs/clubs.
Swap plate for headtorch you can eat out the pan/mug.
As above you dont need leg warmers and tights lose the tights take 2nd set of bib shorts. wear one wash one.
Ditch the tent and go for something like a rab storm bivvy.
3 pr socks
take three socks
first night wash the right sock, dry on rack on second day, make sure you move the left sock to the right foot each day and wash the third in rotation. make sense?
good point on the shorts/leg warmers/tights thing.
taking a plate as going with a mate
obi-twa - bit skint at the mo tbh, and i'm guessing its probably going to rain at some point, and i'll probably appreciate the extra space.
will re-think the casual clothing...
thomthumb, yeah, thought of that, may implement it...
Skint and going to Oslo? You'll not be doing much clubbing... it's a very expensive place!
I wouldn't ditch the tent to many mozzies/flying bity things in Norway, just make sure it has bug netting inside.
Oh yes insect repellent......a very good one 👿
IA, hmm, perhaps the clubbing was optimistic. certainly a drink or two will be consumed...
ah yes, mozzies... sunnies will also be required, i hope!
