Bugger. It was a risk doing the Giro then the Tour, and it hasn't paid off for either Pinot or Quintana

Matthews has won green then. Shitty way to do it for him though; he's worked super-hard and people will say that it was due to Kittel leaving

Yep Kittel has abandoned. Might mean Martin gets some support now, interesting.

Might also mean that Greipel will get his win to continue his record of a win in every grand tour he's raced.

One of those, he has worked for it but the better riders leaving the tour, for a variety of reasons, have helped him massively

No. Bike gets checked at finish. Motor used to arrive fast at bottom of climb, then changed.

Sad for Kittel and Matthews - he'll be wearing Green in Paris now, but won't get all the glory of having to fight for it. I'm hoping he still gets into the break tomorrow for the intermediate, and that Sunweb still blow away the other sprinters on Friday just to prove a point.

Kittel only had green because sagan wasn't there.big part of success at tours seems to be navigating to the end with some luck on your side

One of my Faves Dan, sad to hear he's off. Smithy is hoping to get him on for a chat ... that'll be nice.

The Galibier is only going to stretch things out more...be interesting to see who has made the final cut in the last few Kms of the climb. Wonder who'll grab the Henri Desgrange trophy?

Not sure they'll bother. Will he be able to do much on the descent alone unless Bardet cracks on

Consider this:
Landa and Dan Martin work equally hard. One of them shows it and the other doesn't.

Martin and Aru are 1 min off the yellow jersey group. If I was Uran, Bardet and Froome I would be smashing the descent and valley road to put them out of the running completely.

Yates still in white but Meintjes is now a bit closer.

White jersey is Yates vs Meintjes, so the gap is closed a little, but still fairly comfortable for Yates.

Quality stage.

Macron was at the stage today, had his photo taken with the podium girls, obviously he missed the thread.

Ooh, Aru could easily lose 30 secs to Landa tomorrow if he doesn't keep up with the group.

Second and third decided on tenths of seconds?!

I laughed when Millar said that on the descent there'll hardly touch the brakes....it's easy....

I've done that descent - it's mentally quick...the top part at least!

But woh....I did use my brakes!

😆

what was the spat between Bardet and Uran about, a bit of post race disappointment from Bardet hyped by the media or valid?

Bardet was irritated that Uran sat on the wheel all day and popped up to take the bonus seconds. AG2R's manager said that Uran was smart and understood how to save energy. Make of that what you will 🙂

I liked the interview with Uran

'are you going to attack tomorrow?'

'Why don't you ask Bardet'

Nicked his bonus seconds and then trolled him. Sets it up nicely today if they want to kick lumps out of each other as well as needing to try to take time off Froome. 3 way stripped to the waist fistfight if they can't settle it on the bikes.

My money's on Uran, looks like he could take the other two at the same time

I reckon Froome's arms are long enough he can jab them to a standstill before they get into the same departemente as him

TBH, Uran is definitely right place at the right time by riding intelligently. Nobody in their right minds believes that Cannondale could ride on the front and defend the jersey properly, they don't really have that sort of depth because they don't expect to be in that position. To beat Froome he's going to need to take a couple of minutes out of him today at least. Not sure he has that but I'd love to see him on the podium with Bardet and Froome (whatever the order) as it seems they're the best balanced (between aggression and sitting back) GC riders.
