A sprint masterclass on the Champs Elysees yesterdayfrom Lorena Wiebes yesterday

She makes history by wearing the first yellow jersey of this incarnation of Le Tour

She raised a few eyebrows by carrying a baby onto the podium but it turns out she hasn't had a secret pregnancy.
On to today's stage

It looks like another flat, sprinty stage but as the Rouleur preview points out, the finish is fairly punchy so there are plenty of folk in the frame to try and snatch yellow from Weibes. While Vos and Kopecky will also be in the mix, today could see Balsamo try to make up for a disappionting finish yesterday.
Coverage starts on GCN/Eurosport/Discovery+ at 12.45 with the finish due some time between 15.30 and 16.00.
I'll link the short highlights on here later this evening.
Just got my GCN+ login and looking forward to this. Not watched huge amounts of women's racing but I reckon there will be some good racing.
Oh, just spotted this from ProCyclingStats yesterday:

Echelons would be pretty cool.
Hoping for a Vos the GOAT win.. think she deserves a win after all she done for womens cycling..

... Judging by the crowd or more to the point, lack there of, in Paris yesterday you're not alone.
Really disappointing to see barely one person deep on the champs elysees compared with the usual hordes for the men's.

They've cut back dramatically on the C-E crowds in recent years. I didn't think there were that many there for the finish of the Men's race.

In honesty I only waw a few stills of the mens, it looked busy in those so just assumed it was business as usual.
Loads of crashes. Couple of nasty ones. They'll be no one left if it carries on like this!!
Some really serious looking falls, proper wince inducing.
ETA: I don’t like the replays and how the cameras are focussing on the downed riders.
Vos!!!!!

Noticed that yesterday. The mens race seemed much better this year for not focusing on riders until you knew they were ok(ish), but the woman's seems as bad as ever?

The Men's race seemed remarkably crash-free this year, possibly because of the reduced number of bunch sprints and the overall higher speeds stringing people out more. The few crashes there were seemed *relatively* innocuous - obviously a few like Roglic and his dislocated shoulder, Steven Kruijswijk crashed out, I think the same with Ben O'Connor (although he kind of continued for a while before succumbing to injuries).
But yeah, yesterday's C-E stage had about 3 or 4 small crashes (2-3 riders on the deck each time) and today has just been small explosions going off in the peloton at regular intervals. 🙁
Absolutely great finish. So pleased to see Vos reminding everyone that she’s been Wout van Aerting since he was in nappies.
I think the crashes might have been down to the crosswinds not being quite right for echelons. It created all the stress in the bunch but without the resulting order so it all went a bit crazy.
I’ll pop the short highlights up here later
Highlights!
Having thought about this properly now
- Trek are all in for the GC, burning potential stage winner (and world champ!) Balsamo to make more time for Longo Borghini
- Kasia Nieuwadoma played a bit of a blinder there too. She seems to be sprinting well and could be in for a good run at GC.
- Mariane Vos.
Not entirely sure why the rider ploughed into that crash at full speed. She didn't seem to be looking down & actually weaved past a few others before smashing into Cavalli. Crazy bit of riding.
