Can I change my current bottom swing front mech to a top swing one on my hardtail? Will there be any likely problems?

probably fine.
check where the clamp on the mech will sit, one of my bikes it needed to be right where a bottle cage hole was.
i find the clogging mud falls away much better with a top swing (conventional) mech.
