Dawn raid up at 4.15am for a 6am start hoping to see a sunrise on High St It hurt glad I did it but its one for summer!
https://www.relive.cc/view/818839425
Today's ride was perfect, a crisp start with a nice warm up Garburn Pass the trail as ever had rivers of ice in various spots not helped by a dusting of snow. Yoke and I'll bell were peaked with little mishaps, then coffee time @ High Steet to watch a perfect sunrise . No time to hang about as vicious northerly wind was biting and I was looking forward to a fry up in Glenridding. The downhill to Alcock Tarn was tricky with lots of ice went off piste for a while and a OTB with a face plant
on a rock slowed me down a tad, Boredale Hause was a cracker and had no dabs? NOW A MOAN they say Glennriding is open for business not today it was not, 9.30am no cafes open YHA had a private do and 3 hotels that I asked if I could pay for a breakfast I got turned away by them all!!! grrrrr. Had to make do with an oats so simple and a pot noodle which was lush ๐Ÿ™‚ The climb up Keppel was as painful as ever got passed by a chap on a hard tail so I hung on and followed him so much so I missed the turning and ended up at the ressy. Had a quick chat and met up with the rest of his group I carried on telling the group that I was on a mission and left them as they did not fancy the trek up as the wind was biting and the icy trail was making them nervous :-). Peaked at the summit and took shelter and there was a group selling dodgy nepalese tea I handed over my quid and the first sip was hot but minging I looked around for a plant pot but had to stealthy pour it away and got my coffee out :-). Was not looking forward to the descent of Dollywagon has its never been my favourite trail but the gods looked down on me and it was fairly ice free, reached Grisedale Tarn and tried not to focus on the bitch of a climb oop Fairfield but stuff several jelly babies in my mouth and cracked on. With the wind behind me it was not to bad and with a few stops I reached the shelter much to the bemusement of the walkers there, looking down the horseshoe it looked like and ice field but was fairly grippy a few dabs on a couple of tech descents. The Alcock tarn decent which I love beckoned and off I went, but the trail was littered with walkers so I took it easy with quite a bit encouragement from them all passed with no great trouble or moans. Coffin trail back to ambleside then the winch up Jenkins Cragg was painful and I was beginning to feel the pain.Found a seat and nobbled a packet of Jaffa Cakes and watched the sun go down and reflected on a great ride! Rode back to the van for a cuppa and got the go ahead for a few cheeky beers at the Eagle .Got home and a bath which I rarely have and soaked away whilst the Sunday roast was finished off ๐Ÿ™‚
Its a great circuit probably one for the summer or a few more daylight hours but you cannot beat a dawn raid.
Still think theres a few more years in me!

Nice work mate. Envious. My ride to the Ridgway was seriously less epic.

"Can't bring back time. Like holding water in your hand."

You're making a good stab at it though. Nice stream of consciousness there.

That's a cracking ride Rich. I was up around the tops today and kept on thinking I wouldn't have fancied biking in the fells today given the staggering number of small ice patches ready to have you off!

I was in the lakes today, looked over at the snow on High Street and though "glad I'm not over there, looks bloody cold!" ๐Ÿ™‚ I must stop reading about your rides Rich - I'm trying to use my age as an excuse for not doing all day epics and you doing stuff like this at 50 (powered only by jaffa cakes, pot noodles and beer) aint helping' my excusin'..... ๐Ÿ™‚

you are an absolute legend, 3 great summits in one ride! I'd do one and call it a decent ride.
