Yesterdays order fulfilled.. a shimano olive and hose insert nestling in there somewhere. I guess there had to be room for the invoice, money off voucher and drink sample.

And yes, I've seen the packaging explanation.

I've had worse from Wiggle. About two and a half feet tall, over a foot wide and ten inches deep. For a handlebar.

What is "the packaging explanation", other than that they've obviously gone stark raving mad?

The company only have two sizes of cardboard box.

Two box sizes compressed to fit any product = Decreased overheads

Everyone knows that though, don't they.

I'm the only person on the planet who's never had Baribo from Wiggle. It's obviously a vendetta.

I work in the box industry, far cheeper to purchase two fixed sizes as its few setups, and longer runs, for the machines making the boxes. In fact were working in one of the factories that makes CRCs boxes.. so the likly hood is, those boxes have run over our conveyors 😉

Also, the wrap around design is far cheeper than a standard box.. you can make six or more in one run through a machine... rather than one at a time for "standard" boxes...

Anyone still awake ?

same box, same order item as mine in the other thread.

which allows me to re-use this, CRC adding a chainring bolt to an order 😀

simonm I have a spare seat at an upcoming dinner party.... 😛

I had 3 boxed chains, 2 r-mech's, 2 headsets, a rear cassette, and a couple of wheel skewers at the end of last week from CRC and it was all in pretty small box - looked to be about the size of Foxy's box above, not the monster-boxes s some people seem to get stuff in.

Just sayin' ... 😉

That is the final straw. CRC are not get another order from me till I get a voucher. I must be the only person on the planet never to have received one.

You are not alone. I've never had one. I've not had one from Wiggle either.

Great thread.

Simonm - Does your employer distribute the box toppers also, or just the boxes? Not that I want them, just interested to know if there is standardisation of design and sizes.

Dougal, Its our customers who make the boxes, we just build conveyors that are used in the manufacture.

There is a set of design standards, TAPPI standards or FEFCO.. not sure if the CRC box is one of those as its a newer style than your regular brown box !

I'll take that dinner party offer, owt for a free meal.

why do people keep bringing this up? It's the smallest box the machine can make. You want stuff delivered for free so you have to expect the store to make sending the item as cheap as possible.

If you want to do something about it then order more things together to make better use of the packaging and fuel used to deliver your package 🙂

I recieved the following orders today;

1) from Wiggle an appropriately sized box containing a large SIS container, a pair of sealskin socks and some Haribo.

2) from CRC a headset, front mech, chain lube and seat clamp, some trial energy stuff and a £10 voucher. Again in a box appropriately sized for the contents.

I'm not sure if I should feel shortchanegd because I've not recived an ISO shipping container with a single jelly bean in it?

I ordered a Gelskins Kindle skin, came as basically a piece of A4 material the thickness of a couple of pieces of card. It came in a box you might expect to find a VCR in.

They will also get better tariffs if they can guarantee certain volumetric sizes. Makes logistics a lot easier if you know what is coming.
