Shouting "Stand Aside" to my girlfriend as she's running up the hill makes you sound like an asshole, no wonder your friends have to over-compensate for you as they ride behind by being over polite to everyone they meet, I wonder if you even know they're doing it.

That is all.

There are some right wazzocks about. I'd have done my best to get in his way as much as possible.

Great press for the sport that. Stick through the spokes would sort him out...

"Stand aside" WTF anyway? Even blatantly ignoring the hierarchy of trail rights of way, surely a shouted "excuse me please" would have been less ****erish?

Haha " stand aside" what a tool.

although if you google that in images, a link comes up about how walkers should do exactly that for bikes !

Meh, a whole Peloton from my own bike club (Stirling) bellowed 'get out the way' at myself and four small (under 8) kids, who happened to be on a singletrack road that said peloton was at near full tilt on, two abreast.

There are idiots in every walk of life....

Was he on an Ebike? Cos everyone knows it's only Ebikers that are a danger to other trail users.

I find that bellowing ‘TALLY HO!!!!’ And giving them a blast of my horn tends to do the trick

Hasn't the descender got right of way ?

She probably just stood in the middle of the trail looking like she's never seen a bike before 😉

On my commute, I mingle with runners, walkers and dog owners.

There are two mutually exclusive encounters.

1. See other path user, as I approach I slow down, ring bell (if approaching from behind), we give each other space, both parties smile, I say thanks, we all carry on with our lives having not been assholes.

2. See other path user (in this case almost always a dog owner), as I approach I slow down, ring bell (if approaching from behind), path user stands in my way, I ring bell again / say "excuse me", path user now stands aside with a face like a slapped backside (if dog owner, dog stands aside at other side of the path, ready to run across path as I pass), I smile and say thanks, path user glares at me as if I am tresspassing on their path, I lose my good humour and say "cheer up, a smile won't kill you" and we carry on with at least one of us having been an asshole.

Sounds like your wife was a number 1 and in no way deserved to be shouted at by the asshole MTBer. Idiots in all walks of life, eh?

No, walkers have right of way over cyclists.

"<span style="background-color: #eeeeee; color: #444444; font-size: 12px;">Hasn’t the descender got right of way ?"</span>

Uphill has precedence, this applies to cars as well. On a BW the order of "right of way" between cyclists is:

Riding uphill

Riding downhill

Pushing uphill

Pushing downhill

"To the......" the only people who use that to start a sentence are put-out middle class mums on facebook.

"asshole" the OP is clearly not from Yorkshire, or England even. Probably from somewhere across the pond.

Must be trolling.

To be clear, GF was running up one side of a double track bridleway it's not like he didn't already have plenty of room.

No pudding for him...

Had a classic with a snotty woman on a multi use path yesterday. A quarter of the path is clearly marked as a cycle path. My mate was riding in front actually on the footpath part. Said woman shouted 'get on the cycle path', to which he replied,' I would if your dog wasn't in the way'.Needless to say her fat dog was slap bang in the middle of the cycle path which is really only one bike wide. She still felt she had to give us a torrent of abuse despite clearly being in the wrong.

If she can run up Blue Pig she’s a lot fitter than me.

Fit your wife with a camera, then you can publicly shame the miscreant properly next time.

In the meantime, have you posted on the local Facebook MTB group? The offender may be more likely to see it there.

No offence Brant but I'd not want to see pics of you even if you could run up Blue Pig.

But having met Nick I'd wager that his good lady is a better sight than you.

Running up Blue Pig or not. ;o)

Couldn't she, or you have told the to **** off at the time rather than whine about it some hours later on an internet forum? Might have gone some way to moderating his behaviour next time.
