You have no more than £3000 at your disposal with which to buy one bike. It can be any sort, but it has to be off-the-rack.

What do you get?

My choice:

Wilier

Components

Finally, include a picture if possible.

I figure if we're going to go down, we might as well go down in style. So, yeah.

I would panic buy a RAAW Madonna V2.
Then I would panic buy all the bits I would need to build it up, but that's probably another thread.

Annoyingly I cant find a picture of a bike made of pasta and loo rolls, so my plan is scuppered.

Quite happy with my ti Stooge but would upgrade to full carbon everything else that could be.
Probably have some change for some pasta and TP.

In what seems to be the spirit of the thread already, I'd cheat a little and use my staff discount to buy one of these -

Because the Trek Supercaliber comes in over budget, even heavily discounted for the entry level model, the Canyon Lux CF. https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/mountain-bikes/cross-country-bikes/lux/lux-cf-sl-6.0/2433.html?dwvar_2433_pv_rahmenfarbe=RD%2FWH&dwvar_2433_pv_rahmengroesse=M

Get a nice dropper and a frutti di mare pizza with the change.

Actually I might get the blingiest Brompton I could for that budget.

Not much use when WFH and self-isolating, but would be handy if I make it out the other side.

Under budget by £550 which I would use for a holiday away. A repeat (ish) purchase but more bike than I've ever needed.

Was quite liking that Lone Parabellum earlier this afternoon:

I even think fitting a valve cap to rear wheel won't break the budget either.

Stanton Sherpa, for £20 over budget you can have one of the fancy colours.

**** it, I'm gonna spend my imaginary three large on an eMTB.

Vitus probably do one for that kind of money, eh?

£3k you say? Hmm I’ll take a new Islabike Beinn for my daughter and with the change buy myself one of these for my Alpine:

Bird AEther with Pikes, XT 12s, Hope or DT hubs on DT rims.

(no idea what it costs but I'd quite like one).
