I don't know what the proper name is and I can't even find a picture, but you know the things I mean.
Do they do any good ?
There's a couple of live threads on here at the moment about close overtaking. It's a known problem and these lollipops are supposed to help, so why do I never see them out on the road.
Is it simply because they are probably the most uncool accessory you could put on your bike and coolness overrides safety, or is because they don't work ?
When my sister was younger we put them on her bike. She never got run over (but then neither did I)..
I think it might work to be fair! Not sure the aero crew or the hipsters will like it. I see them a lot in Germany.
A really un-cool lad at school used to have one on his bike, which I regularly took great delight in folding back as I overtook him. This used to really wind him up, (I'd have probably stopped if it didn't/he didn't show it).
In the end it was swapped to so it poked out of the other side of his bike, to the curb side. Double pointless!
a length of scaffolding bar taped across the back of the seat is useful, if only for defence
Never used one but back in the day when I commuted with a pannier I always used the right hand one to give my bike bulk on the offside. Same sort of principal I guess. Did it work? Well I never got taken down from the rear!
Only ****ted off from the front ๐
