This is my brother's bike after this morning's training ride (he's a roadie but we won't hold that against him or say he deserved it!) He was doing sprint training, went to kick on a clear stretch of road and CRACK, next thing he knew he landed on the top of his head.
Fortunately he's OK but he'll be very sore tomorrow.
The bike is the one he got for his 15th birthday. He's now 35 so it's quite old! Seems like a case of metal fatigue. Probably should replace that 1" headset as well. Bonus points if you can guess the make of the frame.
Hetchins or Harry Hall would be my guess!
And..... hope he recovers ok.
Was he wearing a helmet?
Edit: oops - sorry to sounds callus - hope he recovers OK? Just wanted to ask as it would have really hurt if not wearing a helmet ๐
ouch. hope he gets well soon.
Cripes! - I've got rust under the clamp on my quill stem. Maybe I should look at changing it. Its not quite 20 years old, but not far off ๐ฏ
Probably should replace that 1" headset as well.
Yeah, bang a 1 1/8" one in, flare it out a bit, it'll work a treat. ๐
You could get him a Nitto quill from Hubjub. Heavy, but the finishing is beautiful and it'll survive a nuclear explosion...
My mate had a similar spill when his 15+ year old crank snapped whilst honking uphill on a fairly busy road. No warning, no chance - just splat on the road.
next thing he knew he landed on the top of his head
You mean his head came off in the crash and he landed on top of it. That's serious.
Hope he's okay though, bit nasty that.
Holdsworth? Tell him to get some new forks and a threadless headset, much stiffer for sprinting ๐ Hope he's back on the road soon.
By the sounds of it he got away lightly...........
Yes absolutely he was wearing a helmet, which was a good thing because it split in two.
It is a Harry Hall by the way.
He landed on his head? Is the road okay? ๐
Give the great galoot my best wishes
