I'm finding his videos really entertaining to watch. The main problem is that I'm now thinking about buying a unicycle, and this is not a good thing

One of the (many) amazing things about his story is that he set out to raise £18,000 for a small, local charity and ended up raising £302,000 instead. I can imagine that would have made quite a big difference to that charity!

Great video, great story, great adventure, unforgivable mode of transport.

I cant fathom why you would want to use a Unicycle, it looks uncomfortable, slow when you could go fast, fast when you want to go slow, both heavy, and lacking in storage space and downright dangerous at that height with the big wheel.

Makes it look like a rigid single speed would make it easy.

A lot of that applies to a bike too. Maybe go and tell Mark Beaumont he'd have been better off in a car.

What not good about it? My first 29er was a unicycle. My current cycle count is 2 motorcycles (1 of which even works), 8 bicycles and 3 unicycles. But I am pretty much at S.

To be fair I'm really keen to try it out!

In this chat with GCN he sheds a bit more light on how he made his 36" unicycle into a touring bike, courtesy of his grandad's handiness with some metal and a set of tools

Whereabouts are you? Happy to lend you one to learn/try out. Otherwise Unicycle.com is what you need - https://www.unicycle.co.uk/unicycles/muni.html

He has a whole playlist of videos created during his ride...hours of entertainment at his expense!

Maybe. And dont get me wrong, im not knocking it, i just dont get it.

I think the difference (as i see it) is:
Mark Beaumont, or anyone travelling by bike is travelling under his own power.
Ed is making life artificially difficult for himself.

Just my opinion maaaaaan. Good on him.

Would he have raised as much if he was "just riding around the World"? I think the whole point is to make it difficult, to make it a challenge. Otherwise what's the point? You'd just be doing the same as many others. He probably wouldn't be able to do the fastest circumnavigation so how else can he differentiate himself from all the rest? Unicycle - that's how.

Good on him - will watch this later.

This gave me hours and hours of entertainment a couple of years ago. He was going for the world record but got caught up in bad weather and got iced/snowed in.... Ended up in a long term relationship with a girl he met on his travels.

His tandem tour of the southwest coast last year is well worth a watch as well.

He pretty much admits as much in one of his videos, he is just someone who is attracted to a challenge and the sense of achievement you get once you complete it

The pair of them are good to watch and demonstrate serious grit at times.
