So I'm trying to work out if I will be able to get over the hills that stand between me and work.
From Bikeradar "The eight-speed gear range is more than enough for regular town and country use. If you’re interested in the numbers, the gear ratios are: 0.53, 0.64, 0.75, 0.85, 1, 1.22, 1.42 and 1.62".
That means nothing to me.
If the front chainring has 45 teeth and the rear has 20, how do I work out the gears in gear inches?

My Roadrat has an Alfine and, with a 20t on the rear you can think of the range as being similar to an 11:34 cassette.
I fine the range with a 45t chainring and 20t cassette pretty much spot on for commuting. If I recall correctly the lowest gear is about 31 gear inches and the top about 100.
