I did that on a road bike when I was at school. Rode into skip (it was dark and raining). Front tyre was punctured by the chainwheel. Major bends in the frame and fork but the front wheel was fine.

My first DMR Switchback went that way. Shouldn't have been running rigid forks. The second has been good for 6 years now with 140mm forks.
