Thinking about heading over the thetford this weekend, either saturday or sunday. However ive no idea of trails in thetford as the only time ive been there previously was dusk till dawn last year, and all i remember is mud ๐Ÿ™

Is anyone thinking of riding up there this weekend that would be happy to show me about?

Wasn't muddy at all last weekend; in fact sand was more of a 'drag'. Do the Black in the morning, say - a few bomb holes and 'The Beast' which is fun, although some of the high frequency undulations are a pain; then the Red in the afternoon, which is better than I remember, with smoother surfaces and some nice bermed corners. Nothing fantastic, but enjoyable. You can stop for lunch at High Lodge if you fancy it.

We're planning on being there on Sunday. Red and black are fun but if you get a chance try the Brandon side - a little 'off piste' but less crowded and more fun - the parking is better as well.

Thats always good to hear ๐Ÿ™‚ . The mud was killing last time.

Was thinking sunday would be a better day as i really fancy a lie in tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜€ . Unfortunately i dont have access to a car at present so was planning on getting the train across, since its not that far.

We should be in Brandon car park about 9.30 ish - coming over from Milton Keynes. Group of 6 in a CRV and a Transit. If it's p"ssing down we'll stay in and get wet in our local venue, Woburn.

The work TIMBER have done has made the Red much more fun, and AFAIK their intention is now to move on to the Black (which is probably going to be regraded as red too) to smooth out some of the bumps etc.

If you like The Beast but find it a bit stuttery in places, turn right just before the entrance to it and ride Double Shocker instead which runs parallel to it but I think is a better section with more flow to it.

The unmarked singletrack on the Brandon side is the real gem, far better than the marked trails:

Cruzer - no it's on the opposite side of the road to that one - coming up on the road from the Elvden crossroads it's on the left just before getting to Brandon itself - see the map above 'Brandon Country Park' Might see you there - my CRV will have a black SC Blur and an all white Trek on the roof - you're welcome to tag along.

Have to agree about the bumpy nature of the black route. Had to ride most of it out of the saddle last Saturday (was on my cross bike though) to keep any speed going. The red route is really quite nice, and lasts more than 30mins too.

Too much pedaling and too muddy for my liking I'm afraid ๐Ÿ™‚

There's definitely a lot of pedalling, but with the exception of the odd wash out Dusk till Dawn it's pretty dry normally and drains really well - especially the Brandon side.

Last Tuesday afternoon we were riding in riverlets in persisting it rain, by Wednesday (with a breezy, sunny day) you wouldn't have known it had ever rained at all.

either way someone visiting for the first time on Tuesday would've dissed it and someone on Wednesday would've raved about it. This summer has been pretty awesome all year and if it's too much pedalling ...... well, go find somewhere with an uplift, spend your cash, fill your boots and be happy!
