Hi all, I'm on a work trip to Derby from Surrey for Monday, so going up on Sunday to get a ride in - I was thinking of the White peak, so a couple of questions:
Anyone about from lunchtime ish that I could join for a ride?
What are conditions like at the moment given the recent white stuff?
Or any good rides anyone wants to share or advise?
Thanks all, looking forward to it!
I'm just about to set out on a white peak in a minute ride so I'll let you know later 🙂
Where would you want to start from? What length of time/mileage are you after?
Excellent Jekkyl! I don't mind where I start from as I'm travelling anyway, probably looking for 3-4 hours (very loosely) anything up to 30 miles maybe (but that would be condition dependent I guess!
The mud was of a very special brand yesterday after all the snowmelt.
I'd give any of the claggy places a miss if poss.
Peakdistrictmtb published an all weather white peak loop - rode it a few weekends back and had a great ride - could easily link it with trail up on Curbar and Frogatt for a longer ride ...

Great, thanks Simon and Pook, I'll take a look at those routes later...
Jekkyl, how was your ride?
Sloppy slimy clingy clangy mud, mud with grass, mud with 5 day old snow, mud with pools of ice n water, mud with mud!
I actually had a great ride, the majority very rideable but it was hard going at points. Are you determined to ride the White Peak?
See if I can do some pics....

This was around Matlock, Darley Dale, Beeley. I did the 5 dales ride with some changes.

Have you put it on KoftheP?
Chris! I did consider it but I don't have a twitter account. Is there a way without?
instagram? He’s just started a profile on there: kofthep_insta you’ve normally got plenty of great pics!
There you go!
Thanks! Sounds and looks great!! No, I'm not determined to go to the White Peak at all, could go anywhere really - my final hotel destination is in Derby, just picked there because I haven't ever been before, and it's close ish to Derby. If there are better suggestions and/or company I'm up for it...
@pook I don't insta either fella.
@bigdaddy - that route posted above (they're both the same) is as good as you'll get in the Whitepeak. It includes the marvellous loooooong swoopy jumpy drop down Coombs Dale and also the 2 technical bits at Eyam and down to Stoney Middleton. Very rocky and lots of fun. I'm afraid I can't join you though.
Thanks Jekkyl, it sounds like a great ride and I'm up for it. Did it snow there this morning? It's lovely, dry and warm down in the south!
Got the GPS file for the ride, but nowhere on 3 different websites that show this ride does anyone give the start point address/postcode! Unless of course I'm being a numpty, which is very possible! Where do I start?
I'm not starting a Facebook page too!
Pook will probably get his knickers in a twist about this, but if I were riding vaguely in the White Peak on Sunday, following the full day of rain forecast on Saturday, I'd do this ride which includes some cheeky. It's a much better ride than the route linked above. PM me if you want the GPX for it then you can see it on a better map.
I'm sacking it off this weekend and riding the cross bike from Matlock to Castleton and back. It'll be a bit of a shitshow everywhere.

Oooh, that section along Curbar Edge and Froggatt Edge is fabulous!
I ride it all the time - it's not downhill but it's just a great bit of trail. A million points if you clear the sneaky footpath corner cut on the first go - it took me about 12 months to find the line!
Jekkyl - That picture of singletrack do you mind emailing me the route please. iainjagger@gmail.com
Thanks Iain
I did find the start of the first ride, was indeed being a numpty, but OK, now's there's a dilemma! I will PM you Munrobiker...
