I'm not into serious DH, but red/black singletrack is what I'm after, and this is kinda close to where I live (or a lot less hassle than a weekend trip to Wales) so if you've ridden it, please tell me what it's like.

Was like a swamp in winter.
Well sign-posted. Its a relatively small loop - so you'll end up riding it twice if you want to make a day of it.
Parking is expensive.
Singletrack is good and fun well sign-posted.
There was some fun beginners north shore stuff there and a jump bit.

I like it. Nice natural feeling singletrack trails. Not black grade, but rooty (red!). Some more challenging northshore stuff if you fancy it too.

But it does suffer in the wet.

there's some free parking down the side of the lane with the trail center enterance on if you're feeling cheeky

Where do you live? I've ridden bedgebury a few times and find it unsatisfying despite the best efforts and obvious enthusiasm of the local group of riders.

Na sorry it's total rubbish! I would not go there if you paid me.

I live in SHoreham, so we mostly do bridleways and what little (2 mins at a time) singletrack we can find around Chanctonbury.

if you live in shoreham you need to go to stanmer park. exactly what you require (fun techy xc singletrack) and an hour closer in the car.

bedgebury is ok for a pootle and somewhere to take the missus so she can get some off road experience without it being too tech for her.

i prefer to go there to hang with the kids.

what VanHalen said - bedgebury's ok for family rides but if you link up with someone who knwos Stanmer you can have a good technical woodland ride.

try brightonmtb for a guide/regular ride.

I'm always looking for an excuse to get out in Stanmer, if you want a guide for an hour or five...

Thanks Infidel.

I ride down from the SDW to Mouse Lane - that's a great run. Also, the run with the handful of little built kicker jumps that runs along the top of Chanctonbury woods and down to Mouse Lane. But is there more singletrack to be found around Steyning?

Steyning Woods
Whiteways
Stanmer Park
Friston Forest
Kingley Vale
Surrey Hills (Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, Pitch Hill)

All a shorter drive than Bedgebury and just as good if not better.

Check out BrightonMTB, SussexMTB, MuddyArse, Quest Adventure on Google.
