Someone may have mentioned this before, but have we clocked that threads can be read in their entirety (including missing posts) in the Topic Overview? It's the downward pointing arrow & 3 dots at the top of a thread next to the icons.
It's not ideal & pretty useless in long threads (it would be better if newer posts were at the top or perhaps it could be changed temporarily to show the whole overview) but it is a sort of a workaround.

Just another observation but Edits, like missing posts, are taking an age to show up in the thread. However, both are immediately available, once posted, in the Topic Overview. Might this be some sort of caching delay?

Struggling to see the benefit of features such as that over the basic, simple navigation that we've seemingly lost but hey, onwards and upwards. 😶
I'm still patiently waiting for the return of the Watches N+1 and the Tractor top trumps threads

It is, and it's known about. @mark has reported that they're working on it with the software folk.

And I'm desperately in need of a snow update!
The posts show up after a while because I'm currently pushing a button to clear the forum cache on my phone every 30 mins or so. We have found the source of the delay. A database query that takes about a minute to do it's thing in the WPforo software. What we need to do now is work out why it's doing this and coming up with a fix.

Ha, just popped by to make the same point! Not that I've got a new watch, (or tractor) to show off unfortunately.
Hoping my observations are helpful, rather than moany. Bizarre forum behaviour:
The Ukraine thread hasn't made my post visible from an hour ago, two more posts have been made since by poly and DT78, also not visible (460 pages)
The Family eating Camden thread updated and displayed my post almost instantly (1 page, 1 reply)
Is the problem, the longer the thread the longer it takes to post?
I bet Mark’s wishing he’d not asked for comments til after it had settled in and transferred complete.
so many folk probably not reading the thread as it’s now 17 pages and repeating the same issues
maybe we steady on with the comments & let him catch up a bit.
the latest post I can see is from PJay at 10:34 but there have been several posts since then

It keeps the whining in one place rather than 40 separate threads.
In related news, the Quote button is considerably slower than highlighting text and hitting the ["] pop-up.

Try reading the posts above yours.

Nah, it appears to be more random than that.
Got my fingers crossed fopr this reply
Did it work!?
Got to say, it’s a testament to the quality of the forum that it’s still quite lively even with a less than optimal user experience.
Fingers crossed the gremlins will be sorted soon. The hard work is genuinely appreciated.
Firstly good effort on the upgrade. Expect it's 80% to do the first 80% and another 80% to get the last 20% !
Having just come back to it, a few points that'd make it easier to use (for me at least)
1. Reply Box opening a little bit bigger. Yes it auto scales but it just looks odd when you hit reply.
2. Last poster name and time. Really miss that.
3. Delineation between posts seems really hard to see (Mac/Safari not tried on phone). Just feels a bit harder to navigate than the older forum esp between posts.
4. The Nav at the top feels duplicated- happy to see the bike chat members etc but not sure I need the same below with the > - seems to take up a lot of space.
5. Don't really miss it as easy to replicate on KB, but the ^ top of thread thing would be nice to have back
6. Weird picture stretching from Flickr- but okay on direct import.
7. Random P in the reply box
8. Last post takes you to the last post (as does > against the post name) not your last interaction with it
9. The icons before the post (hot, read, etc) are a bit messy, maybe need a space before post title?
Like I say not big things, but having used it for a couple of days though I'd put all my thoughts down in a single post.

It's the British way - we're even prepared to virtually queue for forum posts to arrive! 🤣
Sticky posts aren't sticky - if you select 'latest', like most people would, they aren't promoted.
Obviously, I've got the 'make post, go away, have cup of tea, come back to see if it's on the thread yet' issue.
Seems to be pretty swift.
doing this and coming up with a fix.
Is the migration process still rampaging away in the background?
If it is, is there any chance of pausing it for a few hours & seeing if anything resolves? It might be hard to tell what timing, priority or other conflicts it might be causing. It might not be designed to be running with the forum up & running.
It's a minor niggle but I'll mention anyway.
In classifieds, once opening an ad, the 'back to ads' link goes to an error page
Some changes today by Andy. We think we've got the posting delay down somewhat but you guys will be the judge of that.
The cache issue is not fixed properly yet (That's the thing that's stopped new posts from showing up as the cache sitll has an old version of the page in it rather than being reset when a new reply is posted). However, Andy has put in place a 15 minute job that will automatically clear the cache, which means I don't have to keep doing on my mobile manually. So, if your post isn't showing it should after 15 minutes at least and not hours. More work to get to the bottom of that one tomorrow.
It't frustrating in many ways - one being that with these two issues being so critical to funtion we can't deal with the fun stuff like that weird 'P' in the reply box, or the font size of this or the white space of that. Those are the fun jobs. But today we are step closer.
Thanks as ever for you patience
Mark
Video advert in bottom right of screen are back (subscriber). Weren't there about an hour ago so is a very recent thing.
Posting speed does seem a lot better today, but noticed an edit I made did not show up for ages.

That doesn't seem to be working Mark. As I type this at 20:58, it shows the latest post by @timmys was made an hour ago, but it's not yet showing on here.
It seems to have got worse. No unified forum, no indication of when the last post in a thread was posted, and bloody video adverts. I can cope with crap speed by using tabs.
Can confirm I am also getting the video adverts
For non-"power users", wouldn't last page be better than last post? I'd personally rather scroll down from the first post of the most recent page than up from the bottom.
Why? Well, if I'm on a page I've already visited, it's easy to skip what I've read in a logical order. If that first post is new, I know I need to reference back at least one page.
If I'm straight at the end, it's much harder to scroll in reverse order to find where to pick up on new replied/content then once you get to the top and it's still new, you gotta go back a page then start top down.
8. Last post takes you to the last post (as does > against the post name) not your last interaction with it
Agree, would be great to be last read post.
Also, there's no link back to current forum, say chat, from the bottom of the page ( last post) if you're reading a topic on that forum. Although there is link to other forums, ie Bike, Members etc.
Appreciate its early days and its getting there, many thanks
I can't find the search function?
Has it gone?
It's a minor niggle but I'll mention anyway.

That's an old classic. Must have been that way years now I think.
And people wonder why IT is well paid.
Can you imagine doing a deployment for a bank?
IT is a cruel mistress indeed
Personally I'm using the forum a lot less. Sorry to say that but it's due to the issues lately.
This probably isn't good for STW towers if it's a wider problem.

I used a forum for years that automatically took you to the post you last read in any thread. That's a great function.

Yes that is a good function - the TrainerRoad forum does that.

Back for me too (subscriber)
And there still seems to be quite a delay in posts appearing. It shows I was last to post, but I don’t see the post.
I can't view the whole forum. I can look at chat or bike, but I can't go menu-forum and see it all.
Things I've noticed that irritate me:
- As mentioned, there's a considerable delay between posting, and seeing your post appear.
- The top Forum link takes you to a list of the fora, and not the overview ("/recent") page which is far more useful
- You need a space between the forum icon and the post title when you show the list of topics
I can't view the whole forum. I can look at chat or bike, but I can't go menu-forum and see it all.
Nor can I on the mobile site (it just lists all the forums) but the Overview is still working on the desktop version for me.
Add "/recent" to the end of the URL and it shows you the overview. I've bookmarked it: Forums - Singletrack World Magazine
