I've got this mate, right, and he want's to add panniers and racks to his tourer'esque Pompetamine.

What's the most important considerations when buying these things?

His Pomp is 700c but with discs, so this will need a rack to suit i'd imagine?

As ever, has anyone got any fabulous recommendations?

My thanks in advance

Panniers: Ortlieb are generally regarded as the bestest. They are robust, waterproof and have good after-sales support for spare brackets etc.

Racks: You "may" need a disk specific rack. However, not all disk-specific racks fit all bikes with disks. It's worth going round a few bike shops - with the bike - to make sure. I use a Topeak Super Tourist DX on my Amazon tourer. Clearance for the disk is great. I'd have opted for a Tubus rack, but none of them fitted well.

I've just stuck a Tortec velocity hybrid on my cx, it's got a narrower top than a normal rack and looks much nicer.

Topeak and Altura on my disc braked 29er.

Rack is unbelievable robust compared to my previous one. Think it's an Explorer - the 29er sized one anyway.

I prefer my Vaude to Ortlieb, but both are v good, the shoulder strap is great.

I'd not be wanting to put a lot of weight on a Pomp tho! Bit noodly, but not life threatening.

Just put a 29er disc-specific Topeak Explorer rack on my commuter. Rare as hens teeth - LBS took 7 weeks to get one. No stock anywhere by all accounts and waiting for new shipments into Europe. Good now it is here though, and if they have arrived in volume should now be easy to get...
