Nature has two pieces on bikes this week - main one is a good read if you're interested in the mechanics of cycling [not 100% sure if the News pieces are open access but I think that they are]:

Thanks, interesting to see Jim P still going strong - remember him from r.b.tech days, back when usenet still worked...and yes both the articles do appear to be open access.

Minute Physics covered the reason why bikes remain upright a while ago, very interesting stuff.
