Following on from the skidding thread, anyone got a link to the french fella on a DH run that skids the back wheel into every turn? And gets a tad too close for comfort passing a few blokes as well...

French being rude? Who'd have thought it? 😉

Seriously...I'd lode my temper if he passed me like that (as if he could!)

Ah well, among French, at least he can descend.

Awesome looking trail indeed, out of order to overtake like a nob tho, and TBH there don't look to be many safe safe passing points at all on that trail, comes close to T-boning a guy off the edge at one point don't he?

I really had no idea it was possible to ride downhill that fast! Now I feel like a hopeless incompetent. However, I think he was a danger to other riders too 🙁

yawn. I know the Venosc track like the back of my hand, both from sessioning and racing it. it's an alpine classic and there's no danger of "going over any edges". he didn't hit anybody, everybody had a good descent, stop fussing. face it, if you could ride that fast you'd be pinning it down there too. I expect to overtake slower riders and be overtaken by faster riders too. when somebody comes past you that fast it should be inspiring.

What's 'sessioning' ?

Most of that isn't skidding, it's drifting...

He's not being especially rude IMO, he does warn people he's about to pass, and he's doing it in 'safe' places. It's a DH run after all, you should be expecting people passing you.

It IS inspiring when someone blazes passed you despite the fact you're already going scary fast. I don't mind someone passing me safely and I hope any I have overtaken haven't thought I've been dangerous. Camera angle isn't great on that vid but at 1min4secs it strongly suggests the guy infront of camera barged someone off the course and onto the grass. I couldn't give a stuff about their technique (the skidding), I'm impressed by their speed but barging is out of order.

uplink - sessioning is repeatedly riding a track (or a subsection of track, pushing up) to work on your lines and increase speed.

LOL out those getting upset by his riding style.

I think you'll find on the continent queuing/waiting your turn is not a technique practised by anyone, be it in lift lines, on a track or even waiting for the bike wash 🙂

to me he look slightly the wrong side of control - I suspect if he backed off a little and was smoother through the corners he would actually be faster – I also think he left too little safety margin given how many comparatively slower riders were on the course

What a bunch of trail centre whiners.

The guys are clearly very good riders.

If he does warn folk that he's about to pass then that mitigates it slightly (no sound at work) even if he does he overtakes dangerously on some stupid places IMO.

I don't care how good a rider he is, that does not excuse him from riding safely and with respect.

+1

Compare that with the vid that used to be on the Commencal website of Cedric Gracia at Whistler. Riding superbly, very fast and yet still taking the time to say hi to the groms as he tore past them.

he has obviously ridden that trail before

I had same experience on the recent pass portes ride. Rode it on saturday, which was damp and slippery. I rode it like I do over here, use my brakes all the way down hill. The french dudes hammer down and skid into corner. I was barged past lots on the saturday.

Different story on sunday, alot drier and I decided to ride like the french. Much more fun, especially as I had ridden the trail the day before. My back tyre suffered though

I haved switched back to my UK style of braking back here on the north downs

The guys going slowly are cocks. They're a danger to him and a law unto themselves.

I think he did the right thing- slower riders should yield to better ones.

-1 on the cock vote. But then, like the marmot, I've ridden down it so I've got a bit of context.

I'm sure I was passed by many more than I passed myself but from both perspectives I can tell you that it's quite possible to pass someone close and fast without any danger for either party.

He's obviously riding for the camera but that doesn't make him a cock.

I don't see why he should have his descent ruined by less capable people than him.

I would have no problem if he passed me like that.

most of his passes are passable, but the barge just on 1min in should have resulted in him being followed and done over in an alleyway with a bat.

-2. The only skid I saw was about 2 secs before the bottom of the chairlift, saw several high speed very impressive drifts though.

The guy is clearly absolutely on it, and is regularly heard shouting "pardon", "merci" etc. If the mincers are going to go down a track like that at that speed they've got to expect to be passed. I'd imagine those lot are the same ones that pay no attention to anyone behind them at the UK trailcentres, and sit at 70 in the outside lane of the motorway on their way there because "that's the speed limit".

Ive watched that vid a couple of times now & the 1st time I saw it I thought "****ing c0ck.." Now Ive watched it a few more I think there are a couple of moments which are a bit iffy, 1 nr the top & the other towards the end (both on switchbacks) - otherwise they are just 2 bloody quick riders..

As for calling each other names like "trail centre whiners.." Honestly pathetic - get out & ride! Who gives a **** where, what, even who you ride!

Because if he hit someone at that speed, they'd both be seriously injured?

Daft time to be pinning it what it's so busy. Pretty cool drifty cornering though - bet he was wrecked at the end of it.

looks like it was during the Freeraid Classic from the signs - it'll have been busy all weekend. Mike, yes I did defend him last time and I have no plans to change my views.

They should put speed limits on downhills, that way I could ride my fully rigid 29er in safety.

I don't actually see him coming close to hitting anyone. Fella is a good rider and he knows what he is doing. He's also making plenty of noise and letting them know where he is.

Depends on the trail. Here in Whistler, the faster riders get right of way on trails like A-Line, Dirt Merchant etc... slower riders (well, the rider positioned downhill) get right of way every where else.

Definitely some 'choice' passing

Its the same old thing.. wide angle lens giving the impression of crazy speeds. You see it in F1 and onboard stuff at the isle of mann TT recently. The isle of man onboard stuff is a great example. Its extremely fast stuff but do you really think they can pin a course over 38 or so miles if thats the speed they were going with the speed things are vanishing out of the picture? yes, it IS the speed they are going but the way the lens makes stuff vanish out of the picture a little quicker than the human eye, makes it all look amazing. old TT footage along with old jackie stewart kinda motor racing shows stuff at more realistic viewing. ive filmed some slow stuff and it looks so fast when i play it back on the computer. infact only a few weeks ago i was filming one handed along a track as a bunch of sheep ran in front of me (dont ask) going about 10-15mph and it looks so much faster.

If you look at the guy in front cornering, you will notice he nearly comes to a halt on a few turns and the footage at that point still looks mad thru the camera as the track dissapears from view.

He could also be using so much more of the track on the approach into turns to aid the cornering speeds. still fast stuff but i dont think they are cawkz.

Overtaking & skidding = fine in context.

Barging other riders out the way and nearly taking them out = cock.

Ride how you like but respect other trail users however fast or slow they're going.

+10 mega squintillion on the cock count.
Though if I was able to ride like that, you'd be looking at about +30 mega squintillion on the cock count for my descent 🙂
