I've got some 2012 Revelation RCT3s. If I was to buy some 2013 Revelations (Cheap ones, E.g. the Rev RL), can I simply drop the RCT3 cartridge in the new forks and have the benefit of better damping in a new chassis? Are there any downsides to this idea?

not sure but i think they have not changed chassis 2012/2013. damper prob just screws in, adjust oil level and good to go?

Why bother with the hassle though if they've not really changed?

as above, why? they have not changed.

But yes the the dampers should be interchangeable but the RCT3 is not actually a better damper. Its the same system but just adds the open - threshold - lockout dial. the damping is the same so unless you use the RCT3 lever you won't notice any difference.

I want to change the steerer tube (it's too short for new frame) and itll be cheaper to buy new forks, swap the uppers and sell a hybrid fork, than to buy new uppers at £180.

The RCT3 damper has adjustable low speed compression which the other dampers don't have.
