The lever has gone sticky and I can pick up an SLX lever for £28 rather than a full brake.

Yes. I have M8000 lever on M785 caliper. Been working fine for 2 years except the very occasional Shimano variable bite point but that’s on huge long Lakes descents where I brake too much and not much variableness!
