Definitely looks like someone has put carpet tacks or something on the road.

Interesting how none of the chasing group are prepared to kill themselves to deliver another stage to Sagan. Also looks like the peloton are going to hammer themselves to try to get Rolland back. As the Belgian TV bloke said "Rolland better pray nothing goes wrong with his bike in the next week".

Apparently one of the camera bikes also got a puncture. Very strange number of them.

What was the issue with Rolland going off? I know peleton sat up for Evans but that was after no?

Evans wasn't back on when Rolland went. Frankly it's just not cricket.

From Magnus Backstedt twitter

@MagnusBackstedt: Nice move by SKY trying to slow the race down to get Cadel back in the race. Also pretty predictable that a French rider goes on the attack

And a pointless attack at that. I was going to suggest youthful enthusiasm but he's been around long enough.

My only assumption is he didn't know what was going and thought there was a chance to move up a little in the standings with people going a little slower. Would be very odd for a rider to do that for just the purpose of attacking for a minute on the road.

Someone must have made a big effort to get them down half the mountain.

Nice to see some respect from the vast majority of teams and riders for the unwritten rules and last years winner.

Is the drug cheat Bertie watching ?

Sagan now 3rd in the white jersey competition. 40 minutes down, but 3rd.

Guardian reported that a race mechanic pulled 12 drawing pins out of a tyre.

So Europcar are running tubeless with latex. And Rolland rides for Europcar......

Check his pockets.

Think that last climb would have been a completely different prospect if the sun was beating down and 37 degrees. As it was it wasn't quite the beast the organizers were hoping.

given that bradley was changing bikes cos it had other issues and not a puncture was the tack attack directed at Evans?

any ideas what issues he was having with his bike?
brakes?
indexing?
what else is there to go wrong on a road bike, it's not like his compression damping was a bit slow is it.

Just watching the highlights of Cuddles perched atop the mountain changing his wheel - can't help but think it would have been quicker if he had turned his bike upside down ๐Ÿ˜‰

He said in the interview something vague and imprecise about the exact cause like "mechanical" iirc.

I suspect that saying "yes, my heap o shit Pinarello had cracked AGAIN" wouldn't go down too well with the sponsors so at least he got the PR angle right.

Not seen any of the stage today apart from ITV4 highlights just now so been staying off Twitter and this thread.
Shame about the tacks, the stage had the making of being pretty interesting for GC but the punctures just meant that everything got neutralised - hats off to Wiggins/Sky for that one, very sporting.

Thanks. The BBC don't think so. They removed my comments from their news story. They let comments about Liverpool FC get published and then all the ensuing slanging that created, but a harmless joke about Vladimir Karpets' tacks gets removed!

Maybe he changed it in case there were bits of whatever was causing all the punctures stuck in his tyres. Much qyuicker to change bikes than 2 wheels, esp with that ****y "right way up" method that Cadel's team tried ๐Ÿ™„

Karpets tacks - splendid effort !

Nah, given they were together going over the top it was never going to break on a down and mostly flat.

Not going to do much for his career that is it. Look over at team leader, realise he has a puncture, turn around and ignore it.

Hmmm, from what I've read they've already agreed to ride Pinarellos in 2013.
