Can anyone help. Looking at buying a frame that I have seen in America and wondering how much tax we pay when it comes into the uk?
It works out at about £1=$1 once all taxes etc are added in.
I imported a frame and parts (fork, bars, stem, seatpost) a couple of years ago which had a total value of £2878.
My import duty and VAT on that came to a total of £751.82.
It can work out pretty dear and I only really think it's worth it, if it's a model you can't buy over here.
4.7% duty and 20% VAT on the price of the frame plus shipping, plus a clearance fee for the delivering company allowing you to use their deferment service.
There is a yeti sb66 carbon frame for £1364. That's about £1500 cheaper than over here.
This should help get you started.
I got stung with just a needle bearing kit from RWC..can't remember what it was think it was £12 for something that cost $31..that included the royal mail handling charge.
Cheers guys
You'll be paying a total of just over £1700 on that I reckon.
It's worth considering the warranty as well, you might end up having to send the frame back to the USA for any claims and the postage has gone really dear now.
Its a bloody nightmare. sometimes I've got things through with no issues but recently its cost me about 40% on top!
