Ive stripped my 5 spot down to have it repainted and I thought whilst it was off the bike I would change/upgrade the shock bushes.

This is what my shock currently has...

The top mounting actually slides out of the shock quite easily and leave a brass or copper coloured insert in the shock ?? Is this normal?

The bottom ones are solid and wont move by hand? they look as though they have been rubbing against where they bolt the shock into the frame?

Can they both be upgraded?

There is a bit of play between the hole in the bush  and the bolt that goes through them ?? normal or not?

Cheers

Steve

Just replace like for like, Kaesae has the bits cheap.

The bush near the linkage moves more and wears faster, if the bike had a slight clonk when lifted/lowered that's bushing wear usually.

Lots of vids and tutorials out there, easy job.

If I'm right that's got top hats in the bottom, in which case don't replace like with like, they're pish. Replace with proper (or "heavy duty" as they're sometimes called) shock hardware kit.

For the top one, it's hard to say whether it's right or not- the tube should be fairly easy to remove, but it shouldn't be loosey goosey. I suppose a good way to put it is that it should push out, but not fall out.

Good point, I was thinking about the bushes not the hardware 😳

Should those bottom alloy pieces rotate freely though as Im sure they are that stiff that they have been rotating against the frame not the shock ?

They should be able to rotate, aye. Again not loose but not immovable. It's common for the alu ones to wear or corrode and become very sticky. But they're cheap and save a gram or two so manufacturers still fit them.

Get em out and have a look, if they look fresh then they might be OK to reuse but personally I wouldn't put them back in even if they're like new.

Heavy duty ones like I mentioned- which it looks like is what you already have in the top. Not sure of your size but these:

(other suspension companies are available)
