I've got 36 van's on both my xc bikes. I had TALAS before but didn't use the travel adjust feature so changed them.

Think carefully if you want travel adjust, if you'll use it, when etc and take it from there. If the answers no van's are nicest, try to get the rc2 versions as the damping cartridges are more reliable.

I've had all forks and prefer the Vanillas for performance, but only just as the Talas and Float 2009 onwards are great. I have a set of 2009 Talas for Sale now as the steerer is just too short for my new Uzzi.

I find I don't really use the U-Turn on my RS forks, but I used TALAS loads when I had a set. It's just so easy and simple to use it was worthwhile doing.

As above, Vans are definately the most supple.

As for the weight penalty, it's not worth compromising on unless you are a weight weenie.(Less than 200g)
