Hi All,

Just wondering what any of you do if you have to take off a wheel mid ride to make repairs where you have a thru axel. Always used to have a simple 9mm quick release on my GT but my new Norco Range carbon has a Syntace Thru Axcel that says it needs a precise torque setting to tighten. Don't really want to take a torque wrench on a ride but don't want to overtighten and risk damaging a carbon frame.

iirc its the same design as a dt swiss axle, which is tightened by hand, so i'd just say 'hand tight but dont use a 6 foot allen key to tighten it.

I'd agree with Tom, just do it up tight by hand but not go mad and you should be fine. It might be an idea to use a short Allen key (such as a multi tool) so as to reduce the risk of over torquing.

Or change it for a dt swiss version. CRC do them for about 30 quid.

Syntace do a small attachment that converts the axle to toolless. Think you would struggle to over tighten with that
